Mentoring with Robert G. Allen, The journey has begun!

Mentoring with Robert G. Allen

It is not everyday that the president of a brand new company catches a break like this! I was reading professional development books and trying new things, and working to grow my business for kids when my hubby  came across the following contest on our mentor's facebook page:

"Dear Friends,
I appreciate your friendship here on Facebook. Over 5000 friends and fans- WOW! Today, January 22nd and 23rd, I’m hosting a seminar where I will be teaching how to use Facebook to build a stream of income. I rarely use my Facebook for business. I am going to be teaching how to enroll someone in a network marketing business through social networking.
You may already be involved in something else. This opportunity may not be for you. If you are, however, looking for such an opportunity, I’ll invite you, one of my Facebook friends, to my personal home in San Diego, California, where I will personally mentor you , one on one, in earning SERIOUS MONEY by building a network marketing business. We’ll go through how to take a Facebook friend and transform them into a lifetime friend and business associate. I normally offer such personal mentoring for $5,000 and up. Today, and today only, this opportunity will be available at a tuition of ZERO.
Why? Because I’m teaching a LIVE SEMINAR and I want to demonstrate how anyone can do this to build a powerful extra stream of lifetime income.
I can only do this for one person. If you would like to be considered, tell me the reasons you would like me to work with you. This offer is only available today, January 22nd and will end at MIDNIGHT. Please send me a note at: robertallenfans@gmail.com. Be sure to include your contact information.
I will review each note personally and select 1 fan to join me. If you’re the one, you can expect a phone call Saturday morning, live from the event. There will be a monetary investment of around $500 to get started plus there are monthly costs of between $50-$125.
I ’m looking for someone who is ready to make a commitment of their time and who is willing to learn a simple and duplicatable business system. Are you ready to develop a strong business plan, in order to be personally mentored by me to ensure your success?
I look forward to hearing from you."

Who wouldn't want to work with their personal role models? This was a No BRAINER!  The only catch I could see was that I didn't know what kind of business he was going to get me into (but, he was getting me into a business...I love multiple streams of income!) and I had less than 45 minutes to meet the midnight deadline!

Currently, I have been working on building the GrowinBizKids GrowinUP Experience, our companies signature service. GrowinUP Experience is the experience of a lifetime that allows kids to learn how businesses are started, what it takes to run them and gives them an opportunity to try their hand at running some type of business on their own. Teams of 5 kids each get together, learn from our unique curriculum and then work together in different business simulations to market and sell products. When the kids successfully achieve a "profit", they are given an opportunity to see how financially free individuals spend there time by experiencing this with a celebration that they help plan and coordinate.  The event is complete with 5 star treatment to showcase and celebrate the kids' achievements!  It sounds lovely, but business has been slow starting.  How easy would it be to drum up success with a name like Robert G. Allen behind you?  I had to win this contest if for no other reason than the mentoring factor!  But still, who could argue with another stream of income at such a great price?  Any other business would start me a lot more than $500 to start up!

When I am not building my business, I am busy blogging at KidintheCabinet about the state of education  and what I intend to do about it.  I began with a synopisis and shared stories of my experiences as a teacher and kids who get forgotten or looked over because of the current environment of teaching to tests and teaching to impress the adminitstration rather than teaching for the betterment of kids and society at large.  Let's face it.  Kids are some of the most imaginative people out there, and innovation comes from imagination.  There need to be rules and limits, but they should be able to explore their world in the one place that was created for them to do just that...schools!  I fear the gentlemen who wrote this part of the constitution are cringing in their graves at what education has become, rather than what they hoped it would be.  It is my belief that kids are being stifled creatively in the current academic climate and our countries economic development is stagnated or slow, as a result.  This reason, in and of itself, is the principle reason that I decided to leave teaching to start a business that would allow me to teach what I want, when I want, to all kids who will hear it!  I want to teach kids what they really need to be successful.

One of the first lessons I always teach it to dream big, dream strong, and go for your dreams.  This contest with Robert G. Allen gave me an opportunity to practice what I teach!  I had been following Allen for a few years. I knew that I didn't have a lot of time to respond to Mr. Allen's Challenge, but then again, it was a challenge...and I was up for it.  My husband and I brainstormed a lot of reasons we read Robert Allen books together, and what we thought were the important messages we got from those books.  Then I penned a powerful and moving letter that demonstrated our passion to Mr. Allen through our words.  I re-read the challenge to be sure that I was following the instructions.  (I had just lost a grant proposal because I didn't follow the directions exactly and included a document that was not required.)  I realized the challenge said one lucky person, so I had to revise the entire letter, taking out all the "we's" and "us's".  I managed to turn my letter in at the very last second, barely meeting the midnight deadline!

The next day, I learned that I was a finalist and would I be available for a phone call from Mr. Allen, should I win?   Ha, Ha...like someone would have to ask!  It was exciting, that moment in time, because I was out at Clearwater Beach with a team from the GrowinUP Experience.  I quickly parked the car, explained to the kids what was happening and that I thought I was going "to throw up".  They quickly decided a plan of action, with the two older girls going to pick up  a shirt at one of the shops they had been dealing with earlier in the day.  Anthony took the two younger kids to a nearby bench and got them playing their DS's and commenced to laughing at me and asking me a lot of questions.  I could feel his excitement, his realizing that anything is possible if you just put your mind to it.  The nice lady on the phone, Debbi Stumpf, now my friend, said that their were a lot of good entries and the winner would be called in 5 minutes.  By this time, 5 minutes had come and gone.  The excited nausea had passed and I walked the kids down the street to the park.  I was pacing the park as they played.  I figured that in college we learned to wait for 30 minutes if our professors held a doctorate's degree...I figured Billionaire Bob had a degree in money making and marketing anything, so I'd wait at least an hour...I imagined how busy a person must be to have that much money...I wondered could my goal of working on a project with Bob Allen really be happening just months after I thought it, desired it, put it on my goal list?  And then, the phone rang.  I didn't recognize the number.  I answered.  The rest is an exciting blur that I hope to sort out in a new blog page.  I will still post to KidintheCabinet occasionally.  I am still working fulltime on my GrowinBizKids, Inc.  I intend to work every spare hour on the business Robert G. Allen has got me started with and to learn from him all that I absolutely can.  If you wish to follow this journey, check out the new blog page:  http://rebeccaroserooney.blogspot.com/
